Scratching is something that some DJs thing that if u cant do then you shouldn't call your self a DJ. In today's world with all of the new songs and new ways to mix music and make it your own, knowing how to scratch is a must. Iv been DJing for years now and I can do it but i wouldn't say I'm great at it. The first things that you have to know is the times of songs and when to do it. I would say that's the most important thing when it comes to scratching. theirs a couple different ways to scratch but all have the same importance with times. To start your going to need to turntables ( digital or vinyl ) to scratch on. the easyest way to lear is to load up a song that has a lot of high vocals and one side and play a song on the other. while your song is playing u have to use the crossfader and sractch the other turntable and move the coss fader back and forth.. soo when happendes is that while the songs playing your moveing the cross fader so that bother songs and playing but your scratch ing the high vocals over the song. this is the easyest way to learn I think. Once you have the cross fader down and how to scratch, then you hould start to try to get timeing right only scratch in the times thats needed or that would sound good and start to scratch faster or slower in one scratch. i know it sounds hard but once u get used to it and know some moves u can do with your hadn it can be really great sounding.

Now a lot of the famuse DJs today they scratch a song while its playing to loopit and to play diffrent parts of songs at the same time. Me, I'm not very good at this. This takes a lot of time to master and you have to really knnow your music and whats goign to play and when. Say you are playing a song that starts with a beat. You start the songs spinning. then you cue up a nother song that has a vocel in it. What you do it while the beat is playing on one song u rewind the other turntable to repate the vocle in perfect timesing with the beat. Like I said this is really hard but very cool sounding and fun to do.
